Event Overview

Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint with watercolors but are overwhelmed with where to start?  No art skills?  No worries! This 2.75 HOUR class is perfect for the complete beginner; an introductory class with all quality materials included!  At a comfortable pace, you will be introduced to different watercolor painting materials, understand what watercolors are made of, learn how to mix colors, practice a few painting techniques, and create one simple painting!  By pursuing watercolor painting, you will learn how pleasurable and relaxing this medium is and you will develop a way to exercise creativity.  This class is a great prequel to my other watercolor classes.  Come along with us and discover the joy of watercolor painting!

Boris Ostrerov

Boris Ostrerov earned a BFA in Painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013. While studying, he learned to paint and draw both representationally and abstractly with various mediums. He worked as a teacher assistant for multiple teachers and classes at MIAD and SAIC. In the last three years he has worked for wine and paint companies and taught art classes to beginners. He creates a comfortable environment and uses his ability to clearly and enthusiastically articulate and demonstrate approaches and techniques to painting and drawing. He believes everyone has the potential to improve their artistic skills and exercise their creativity through visual art.

Ostrerov has exhibited his work widely and earned several opportunities including showing at Paris London Hong Kong (PLHK), Tory Folliard, and the Portrait Society in Milwaukee. He has been featured in several publications including New American Paintings #119.

    Boris is an extremely talented artist and instructor. These are qualities that normally do not go together. He has mastered both of them. He explained the basics of the medium, showed us techniques in watercolors, let us practice each one and then incorporate each into a final landscape. He was informative and encouraging. I was pleased with the information I learned and proud of my painting.

    Boris is an excellent teacher! We really enjoyed learning a few techniques and the challenge of replicating one of Boris’ painting. Highly recommended and I’m going back for part two!

During first half we learned a few basic tricks. Then we painted a picture during the second half of the class. Boris also introduced to us types of brushes, paints and papers. If you are very intimidated by watercolors and are scared to get started, this might be a good class. On the other hand, it seems like the instructor didn't prepare very well for this and seemed confused or lost by his own instructions and his example picture to recreate was just bad.
