Event Overview

There is so much that you can do with printmaking, the very broad medium allows you to make multiples of one image. Send a special card by printing your own! Linoleum block printmaking is as easy as making a single design, and printing it on 10 cards. You can keep the colors the same, or switch it up to individualize each one. Cards are 5x7 and come with envelopes. Additional Packages of 10 will be available for purchase on site.

"Lino-cut" is a printmaking technique, in which a sheet of linoleum is used for the relief surface. A design is cut into the surface with a V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (un-carved) areas representing a reversal of the parts to show printed. The cut areas can then be pulled from the backing. The linoleum sheet is inked with a brayer (roller), and then impressed onto paper or fabric. The actual printing can be done by hand or with a press, we will be printing by hand on paper.

Printing Blocks are approximately ¼" thick— enough to allow both sides to be cut, thus providing two printing surfaces per block. Cut any size block into smaller pieces with scissors, a knife, or a paper trimmer to use it for rubber stamping! Printing Blocks are latex free and meant for use with water-base block printing inks.

The design of the block is entirely up to you. I recommend sticking with clear, simple images, high in contrast, and a variety of textures. Landscape, architecture or nature images are all easy places to start.

Hands on class and fun class. I left with some great cards for Christmas. Katie was both very patient and helpful.

This class was great. I'd already been doing some linocut printmaking at home, but the material Katie provided to carve was so much easier to work with than what I'd been using. So not only did I make a great set of greeting cards, I now have a new, easier material that I'm going to switch over to in my personal practices. The cozy space was set up with everything that we needed and we were able to enjoy some BYOB style wine while we worked. A+ experience - very glad I did it.

Fantastic linocut class - I truly was amazed that I not only carved what I did, but that I inked and printed it too. Katie's direction was fantastic, and you can tell she's a teacher in real life, as she is patient, provides good direction, suggestions, and tips, and keeps things running on time (and provides you reminders of the timetable!).
