Event Overview

Why take this class? This is a a fun, educational, and entertaining 2 hour class. I'm a friendly sommelier and we will taste 10 wines side by side: four whites, two roses, and four reds. I think that comparative tasting is the best way to learn! You will gain insight into how your taste buds work and how wine is made. We will talk about the myths and truths of the wine industry.  You'll leave feeling excited about your wine knowledge!

About me: My name is Floreana and I am a sommelier.  I'm an LA native, and I have been teaching wine classes to staff in restaurants, stores, and bars for years.  I'll lead you through the world of wine and answer any questions you have.  My idea is that cracking open a can of beer isn't intimidating, so why should a bottle of wine hold so many mysteries?  (For private events, please contact me!)

Who should take this class: Any budding wine enthusiast, ages 21 to 101.  No previous wine knowledge necessary.  This class is a great way to discover which wines YOU like to drink while mingling with new friends.

How to prepare: Please refrain from wearing heavy perfumes or colognes (it will be hard to smell the wines).  Please do not chew gum or brush your teeth immediately before the tasting, or the wine will taste really weird (trust me).  I suggest that you have some lunch prior to the class.  I'll provide light crackers and cheese for palate cleansing between wines.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

My name is Floreana and I am a sommelier. I love working in the wine industry. I started liking wine in 2007 because my roommate was a sommelier. I have worked in nearly every corner of the wine industry: LA's top fine dining restaurants, farming in a biodynamic vineyard, making wine in a winery, selling wine as a rep, and pouring from behind a bar. I have Level 2 certificates (there are 4 levels total) from the Court of Master Sommeliers and also from the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust. I love teaching people about wine. I am a native Angeleno and I can't wait to teach you, too!

This was an excellent intro into wine-tasting and the many diverse things to consider in the creation of wine, which can give you a greater appreciation for enjoying and discovering different types of wine at all price points. Highly recommend more classes by this teacher!

Floreana was an absolutely fantastic teacher. She was warm, knowledgeable and open, ready to answer any questions and excited to share all she knows about wine (which is a lot!). She presented an array of wines, from reds I knew I liked to whites I don't normally drink, but her explanations and tips on how to get the most out of each helped me zero in on things I normally never notice. The class was a no-pressure way to learn a lot and spend an afternoon having fun with friends. Can't recommend it highly enough!
